Trains to and from Barcelona Airport (BCN)

Terminal 2 offers passengers direct access to a train station; Barcelona Airport trains via Rodalies commuter line R2 Nord leave for Maçanet-Massanes train station and also stop at Barcelona Sants Seloni and Passeig de Gràcia train stations in the city. From there passengers have access to the Barcelona Metro train system. It takes approx. 27 minutes to reach Passeig de Gràcia. Once a day a direct train service leaves El Prat airport for Barcelona Estació de França, the city’s second busiest train station.

The Rodalies network for lines R1, R2, R2 norte, R2 surt, R3, R4, R7 and R8 has an independent ticketing system than the rest of Barcelona’s public transport network and Rodalies tickets are not valid on other metro trains, buses or shuttles to and from the airport. The city is divided into six different pricing zones and a journey from the airport to central Barcelona destinations falls within zone 2 for ticket purchases.

Rodalies network Barcelona Airport trains leave El Prat every 30 minutes. Trains from Barcelona Airport take just 6 minutes to reach El Prat de Llobregat station; to get to Barcelona-Sants takes 22 minutes and a 1 hour and 3 minute trip takes passengers to central Granoliers.

For public transport that falls outside the Rodalies network passengers can obtain integrated fares that allow them travel by metro train, bus, tram, FGC and RENFE trains on the mainline rail network.

Trains from Barcelona to Madrid are offered on the high-speed AVE train network, but these trains do not leave daily. The journey time is approx. 2.5 to 3 hours and services are offered at regular intervals throughout the day. The journey starts at Barcelona Sants and ends at Madrid Atocha train station. The return journey costs GPB 83.00 during peak times.

The slower Combinado train takes 6 hours for the same journey, but there are frequent stops. Taking even longer, the Costa Brava train makes an overnight journey out of the trip, taking 9 full hours to complete the journey. There is only service per day, which leaves at 10.20 pm every day.

A journey by AVE high-speed trains to Seville costs GBP 85.00 at peak times and takes 5 hours and 25 minutes from Barcelona Sants to Sevilla S Justa train station. It is also possible to connect from Barcelona to Paris Gare d’Austerlitz via Girona in Spain and Limoges and Carcassonne in France. The journey takes 11 hours and 45 minutes with Elipsos trains.

Trains for Valencia also depart from Barcelona Sants Station. Barcelona Estació de França is located in the east of the city and provides RENFE medium distance train services. The R10 Rodalies line serves this train station. Trains for Paris, Switzerland and Italy leave from this 19th century train station.
