Barcelona Airport Taxis (BCN)
Each passenger terminal has its own taxi rank. At Terminal 1 the taxi rank is located opposite the arrivals area and there is another taxi rank at the Barcelona-Madrid Shuttle area. At Terminal 2A and T2B the taxi ranks are also situated opposite the arrivals halls.
A journey into central Barcelona takes roughly 30 minutes, depending on the time of day one travels. Highway C-32B links the airport with major motorways in the greater metropolitan area of Barcelona and connects via the B-250 with the Llobregat region.
Airport journeys attract an additional fare of EUR 3.10 per journey on top of the minimum charge and price per kilometre. Passengers are allowed one item of luggage for free, provided this piece of luggage is no larger than 55x35x35 cm. For all larger pieces of luggage a surcharge of EUR 1.00 applies.
The general reservations and enquiries telephone line is at tel +34 932 235 151 extension 2158. The enquiry desk is manned from 08.00 am to 03.00 pm. Passengers can also contact the enquiry desk by email at email@example.com.
Taxis Barcelona Airport cannot be hailed at random upon arrival. Passengers are required to join an orderly queue at the ranks, where they will be shown to an available taxi. Standard airport taxis are black with yellow sides. The taxi ranks are well sign-posted at all the terminals and an official member of staff in a uniform is there to assist passengers.
The minimum charge for Barcelona Airport taxis to the city is EUR 20.00, which applies regardless of the distance travelled. After the surcharge and minimum charge have been calculated, each additional kilometre to city centre destinations is charged at EUR 1.18 per Km from Terminal 1 and EUR 0.93 per Km from Terminal 2. For example, a journey from Terminal 1 into the city centre will cost at least EUR 25.00, because the terminal is further away from the city centre.
For journeys to destinations outside the main Barcelona city area different rates apply and these fares per kilometre are virtually double the price. There are no toll charges between El Prat Airport and the city centre, but for out of town locations there may be toll charges that will be added to the overall fare.
It is worth enquiring with the hotel one has chosen, if they operate a shuttle service. On public holidays, late at night and at weekends after midnight surcharges apply, making a journey with Barcelona Airport taxis rather expensive.
Hand luggage small than the aforementioned free item of luggage can be taken into the car with the passenger, which avoids the additional charge. Generally speaking, any luggage that travels in the boot in addition to the one free item will be charged at EUR 1.00.
For families or groups of friends arriving together it is more cost effective to shun taxis Barcelona Airport in favour of mini-van transfers. As long as there are four or more travellers, the cost of the journey works out much cheaper per person, especially for long-distance journeys to destinations outside Barcelona city centre. Such services can be reserved in advance via the tourist information desk at the airport or online. The mini-van transfer service will not be waiting at the airport on the off-chance, so reservations are essential.
A pre-booked taxi service to the city centre in a Sedan type vehicle will cost EUR 38.00 one way. Barcelona El Prat Airport taxis like the Sedan have the capacity to take 3 passengers, 2 large and 2 small items of luggage. With a Mercedes E class type vehicle the price rises to EUR 69.00 one way. The person and luggage capacity remain the same.
In contrast, making the same journey with a Mercedes Viano mini-van that can seat up to 6 passengers, the journey will cost EUR 79.00 one way and with a mini-bus transfer service in a vehicle seating up to 8 passengers the journey will cost just EUR 55.00 one way.
