Trains to and from Gerona Airport (GRO)

Estació de Girona is a railroad depot serving the city of Gerona in Catalonia, Spain. It is located in the northern domain of the metropolis, about 1km southwest of the city's historical center.

The station is on the Barcelona–Cerbere conventional railway and the Perpignan–Barcelona high-speed rail track. It is operated by Rodalies de Catalunya regional line (R11) and Gerona commuter rail service line (RG1), along with some national and international high-speed services operated by Renfe Operadora and SNCF. Gerona also has a freight station about 3km south of the passenger station.

This station opened and began its services in 1862 when the Iberian meter or gauge trains started arriving on the Barcelona–Cerbère line from Maçanet de la Selva.

From 1892, the railway station was also served by narrow gauge trains on the Sant Feliu de Guíxols–Girona railway and, from 1898, on the Olot–Gerona railway. Both of these little trains closed their operation in 1969.

Gerona's third narrow gauge track, the Palamos–Gerona–Banyoles rail line that helped the city mid-1920s and 1950s, terminated some distance away at Porta de Franca.

The Iberian gauge station was relocated onto an elevated viaduct in 1973. By 2012, while remaining in the exact location, the station was planned to become subterranean. All tracks moved underground, including the new high-speed train from Barcelona to France. However, due to intense work delays, the underground railway station opened on January 8, 2013, with only the standard gauge high-speed tracks. The elevated station remains in service.

Gerona station has rail tracks on two levels. Trains on the original Barcelona–Cerbere line operate via high-level platforms on a viaduct. In contrast, trains on the new high-speed line from Barcelona to France operate through low-level platforms.

The station has an expansive passenger building beneath the high-level tracks, with several services, including retail establishments.

The trains run on the upper level, accessed by stairs, escalators, and elevators. This level has four tracks: two general, one Iberian gauge siding, and one standard gauge siding on the other. There are three platforms, partly covered by canopies, and a building dedicated to traffic and other railways-related services on the right of way.

The low-level platforms are situated parallel to, and just to the west of, the high-level platforms but are 26 meters below ground level. Four standard gauge tracks are on either side of two island platforms. The media are accessed by stairs, escalators, and elevators from an entrance hall above the tracks.

Gerona has 20 train line routes serving Barcelona, Madrid, Figueres, Perpignan, Valencia, Paris, Carcassonne, Zaragoza, Argeles-Sur-Mer, Seville, Narbonne, Collioure, Lyon, Marseille-St. Charles, Salou, San Sebastian Donostia, Beziers, Sitges, and Llanca.

Train tickets are sold at train stations. Ticket prices vary depending on the passenger's point of destination.
